United's Rimando Is Injured While Jogging With Dog

Nick Rimando , D.C. United's veteran backup goalkeeper, sprained his right ankle while jogging with a dog Tuesday night and might miss the remainder of the MLS season.
Rimando -- who started most of the previous four seasons before Troy Perkins 's emergence this year -- said yesterday that he thought he stepped on a tree root near his home in Annandale while out with a young pit bull named Boomer . "I just went out for a run with the dog on a trail, stepped on something and went down," he said. "Within 10 seconds, it blew up like a basketball."
X-rays were negative, but Rimando said he would be sidelined at least two weeks.
United will play the New York Red Bulls on Sunday at RFK Stadium in the second leg of a two-game, first-round playoff series. United won the first leg, 1-0. Ryan McIntosh , a rookie from Central Florida who made seven appearances for the club's reserve squad, will serve as Perkins's back-up.
If D.C. advances, it will host the Eastern Conference final Nov. 4 or 5. The MLS Cup is scheduled for Nov. 12.
