Orange Poppy Seed Madeleines

Makes 2 dozen

This is Neidra Holmstrom's (of Leopold's Kafe, 3315 Cady's Alley NW, 202-965-6005) take on the cookies made famous by Marcel Proust. These can be stored in a tightly covered container and refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

1 cup flour, sifted

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 medium orange

5 eggs, lightly beaten

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons light brown sugar

4 ounces (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon honey

1 tablespoon poppy seeds
