The Israel Life Sciences Road Show comes to Herndon today. Thirteen Israeli companies will present their pharmaceutical products and medical devices to key players in the U.S. life sciences and biotech community. The tour, which is also stopping in Boston, New York and northern New Jersey this week, is aimed at forging relationships between Israeli manufacturers and U.S. venture capital investors and biomedical companies.
Participants in the tour, now in its third year, were selected from hundreds of Israeli start-ups by a panel of biotech and financial experts.
Northern Virginia has been actively courting such international relationships, particularly with Israel; the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority has opened an office in Tel Aviv.
Clearspring Technologies , a venture-backed firm based in Arlington, plans to launch its widget syndication service today. The company, which received $2 million in funding from Novak Biddle Venture Partners and other investors in April, distributes online content and tracks it through social networks, blogs and personalized Web sites.
IceWeb, a Herndon provider of hosted software services to small businesses, acquired the federal government business operations, also based in Herndon, of True North Solutions for an undisclosed sum. The business, which provides information security services to federal clients, produced $28.2 million in federal sales last year.
MARYLAND
Freewebs.com , a Silver Spring-based Web site builder, has opened a New York office and is relaunching as a community site. The company has 12 million users and recently secured $11 million in its first round of venture capital funding.
