Holiday Event? Get Listed!
Weekend will publish its annual guide to Christmas, Hanukkah and other winter holiday activities on Dec. 1. If you would like us to include your concert, pageant, children's show or similar event, mail a detailed description -- with dates, times, prices, street address and a telephone number that we may print -- to Holiday Happenings, Weekend, The Washington Post, 1150 15th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20071-5650. Free 'Butterfly' on the Mall
The Washington National Opera is hosting a free outdoor simulcast of its acclaimed production of "Madama Butterfly" Sunday at 2 on the Mall. Viewers will see Puccini's tragic tale of love and betrayal on a giant LED screen as it is performed live in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Last year's simulcast of "Porgy and Bess" drew a crowd of more than 13,000 opera-lovers. No tickets are needed.

African Stars in D.C.
Three African pop stars are sharing the stage Sunday at Lisner Auditorium on their "Acoustic Africa" tour. The lineup: Habib Koite of Mali, who sang with Bonnie Raitt on her "Silver Lining" album; Vusi Mahlasela ("The Voice") of South Africa, who has recorded with Dave Matthews; and 23-year-old Dobet Gnahore of Ivory Coast, visiting the United States for the first time. Tickets cost $25 to $35.

Theater for All Ages
The Olney Theatre Center opens its holiday production, "Cinderella," with a "pay-what-you-can" preview Tuesday at 7:30. The bargain seats go on sale a hour before the show. Performances of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical adaptation of the classic tale, originally written for television, continue through Dec. 31. Tickets cost $34 to $44, half-price for ages 18 and younger.

New Views of Home
A new exhibition of 40 detailed images of the Blue Planet as seen by imaging satellites goes on view Saturday at the National Air and Space Museum. Photographs in "Earth From Space" show the shadows cast by the pyramids, channels entering the Arctic Ocean and the swirling arms of a massive hurricane. Admission is free.

Remembering Our Veterans
The service and sacrifice of America's veterans will be honored Saturday at Veterans Day ceremonies across the region.
At 8 a.m., a wreath will be placed at the World War II Memorial to honor all World War II veterans, and another wreath will be placed at 11 for 82nd Airborne Division veterans. At 4 p.m., a ceremony will honor World War II cavalry veterans.
At 11 a.m., a wreath will be placed at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery, followed by a ceremony in the amphitheater. Visitors must be seated by 10:30. Free buses will operate from the
visitors center parking lot.
At 1 p.m., a ceremony with music and
remarks by dignitaries begins at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. A featured speaker is Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne, who will pay tribute to his brother Patrick, killed 40 years ago in Vietnam.
At 1 p.m., a wreath-laying ceremony
begins at the statue of the Lone Sailor at the U.S. Navy Memorial, with the U.S. Navy Band, Ceremonial Guard and Color Guard.
At 3:30 p.m., a wreath-laying ceremony with remarks by veterans begins at the Women in Military Service for America
Memorial.
