The holidays are all about family. And the families are worried.

Dear Dr. Gridlock:

My daughter and I plan to drive to Teaneck, N.J., for Thanksgiving day. Could you please advise a route north that avoids the interstate? We leave Alexandria to head to Baltimore-Washington Airport to pick up a friend.

They'll be traveling on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, she said. That's just ghastly.

Access to the terminals at BWI is better than last year, thanks to the reconstruction program, but many people -- almost 67,000 in 2005 -- find it necessary to fly in and out of that airport on the day before Thanksgiving.
