Brian Johnson threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third, carrying Howard past Bethune-Cookman, 28-0, yesterday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

It was Bethune-Cookman's first scoreless loss at home since a 27-0 setback to Hampton in 1997.

The Wildcats (5-5, 3-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) were limited to 158 yards -- 21 rushing -- and suffered seven quarterback sacks. Endor Cooper registered five of those sacks, equaling the most by a Division I-AA player in a game this season.

Howard (4-6, 3-4) used three ballcarriers to maintain control of the ball while totaling 272 rushing yards. Karlos Whittaker rushed for 91 yards on 16 carries, Antoine Rutherford had 83 yards on 17 carries and Johnson finished with 73 yards on 10 carries.

· LAFAYETTE 45, GEORGETOWN 14: Jonathan Hurt rushed for 135 yards and four touchdowns as the Leopards beat the Hoyas in Easton, Pa.

Hurt scored twice and Shaun Adair returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown for Lafayette (5-5, 4-1 Patriot League), which jumped to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter.

Brad Maurer threw for 305 yards. The Leopards accumulated 511 total yards and averaged 9.3 yards per play.

Georgetown (2-8, 0-5) got an 81-yard touchdown pass from Matt Bassuener to Charlie Houghton early in the second quarter to cut Lafayette's lead to 21-14.

The Hoyas couldn't generate much offense after that until they drove deep into Lafayette territory late in the third, but Bassuener threw a second interception that ended the drive at the Lafayette 6.

· BRIDGEWATER 20, CATHOLIC 13: The Cardinals (3-7, 1-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) dropped their final game of the season despite two touchdowns from Reuben Simmons.

Simmons finished with 79 yards rushing while Keith Ricca completed 14 passes for 116 yards.
