Northern Virginia Family Service needs volunteers 16 and older Dec 11-21 to receive and sort toys and staff the Toy Closet, where case managers will "shop" for client families. The location will be in the Fairfax/Oakton area. To volunteer or for information, call 703-219-2193.

Volunteers for Change, a program designed for busy adults, features a flexible monthly calendar of more than 45 projects throughout Northern Virginia. Attend an hour-long orientation meeting, then choose from the program's monthly community service projects, including planting trees, bagging food for homeless families, tutoring adult students in English as a second language, playing bingo with people with disabilities and helping with community-wide events. Orientation meetings are 3-4 p.m. Sunday and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Volunteer Fairfax's office, 10530 Page Ave., Fairfax. 703-246-3460, Ext. 2, adoyle@volunteerfairfax.org.
