In addition to the numerous clinics across the region that will offer free HIV testing today, the following events are taking place to commemorate World AIDS Day:

11 a.m., HIV/AIDS quilt unveiling and name-reading ceremony, Unity Health Care's Phoenix Center, 1900 Massachusetts Ave. SE.

11 a.m.-1 p.m., observance and historical exhibit, Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia, 5232 Lee Hwy., Arlington.

1-3 p.m., commemoration, with speech by AIDS doctor Akmal Muwwakkil, Prince George's Community College, Marlboro Hall Art Gallery, 301 Largo Rd., Upper Marlboro.

2:45 p.m., rally at Lafayette Square,16th and H streets NW.

5:45 p.m., candlelight vigil, Freedom Plaza, 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

6:45 p.m., "Our Heroes" art exhibit and reception for HIV/AIDS clinical trial participants, Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
