Airport Update

Sunday, December 3, 2006; Page P02

San Francisco International Airport is getting in the holiday spirit with free performances Dec. 6, 13, 20 and 27 from noon to 1 p.m. Entertainers, including the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and the Leading Ladies of Tango, will appear throughout the terminals. In addition, the airport is offering a Holiday Savings Passport with deals on airport stores, services and restaurants; pick up coupons at the San Francisco airport or print them out at http://www.flysfo.com/promotion/coupon.html. The week before Christmas, passengers can have their presents wrapped free after clearing security in the domestic terminals. . . . Oakland (Calif.) International Airport last month opened four of seven gates in its new Terminal 2 concourse, part of a $300 million construction program. The gate area, which will service Southwest, also includes a 200-foot moving walkway, bay views and an installation by local artist Hung Liu. . . . Last December, a Southwest flight skidded off a runway at Chicago Midway International Airport, crashed through a fence and landed in traffic, killing one person. To prevent that from happening again, the airport has installed a concrete safety buffer on its northwest runway. The airport plans to install more buffers next spring and summer. . . . Logan International Airport's long-awaited Runway 14/32 finally opened Thanksgiving day. The runway is expected to reduce air traffic congestion and delays into and out of Boston. . . . Get hitched pre-departure with a Schiphol Wedding. Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport offers four types of ceremonies, such as "Say Yes and Go," as well as a wedding planner.
