GETTING THERE: The National Ability Center (NAC) is about 30 miles east of Salt Lake City. A number of airlines fly to Salt Lake from the Washington area, including American, which offers connecting flights from Reagan National for about $334 round trip, with restrictions. Fares on Southwest out of BWI start at about $250, with restrictions.
WHERE TO STAY: The NAC lodge, a dormitory-style facility next to the main recreational center, has 26 accessible rooms, a gym and a cafeteria. Double rooms go for $65 a night in the November-March ski season, $45 the rest of the year. The decor is basic but comfortable. Some rooms are adjoining, which is convenient for families and groups.
WHAT TO DO: Ski lessons on area slopes, offered to people with any disability, are $100 for five sessions, including lift tickets and equipment rental. Relatives and friends can come along for a slightly higher rate. Reservations recommended.
Rates for yoga, horseback riding and other activities vary. The center staff can help craft a program for individual travelers or groups. For a family of four on a five-day trip including daily skiing, horseback riding and accommodations, the rate would be $1,200. Scholarships are available.
WHERE TO EAT: Main Street in Park City, three miles from the center, is lined with restaurants with any price range and cuisine you want. Fully accessible options include the Wasatch Brew Pub (250 Main St., 435-649-0900), which has great burgers, fish dishes and salads. At dinner, entrees average about $15. Also consider Cisero's Ristorante and Nightclub (306 Main St., 435-649-6800), with tasty Italian dishes in a fun setting. Entrees run about $16.
