Sound Reasons for Not Banning Bottom Trawling

The moratorium on bottom trawling was unsuccessful because it was bad policy; FAO scientists recommended that "specific situations and areas" need to be considered when restricting bottom-trawling activities on the high seas.
By actively working with FAO officials and their American counterparts, the seafood community is committed to ensuring our fisheries system is managed properly for future generations. On Saturday Congress passed a bill to improve the governance of our domestic fishing supplies, and we encourage President Bush to sign it.
