The Washington Redskins reached the end zone for the first time with 23 seconds left in the third quarter. Before that score, Washington's offense had failed to score a touchdown in more than 117 consecutive minutes against the Eagles' defense, dating from the teams' second game last season. Washington had managed just four field goals and a defensive touchdown over that span.

The Redskins got virtually no pass rush on Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia. They recorded no sacks and just two quarterback hurries, allowing Garcia to survey the field en route to completing 15 of 23 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. The defense, which allowed no points in the second half, also failed to stop the Eagles on their final series of the game. Philadelphia ran off the final 4 minutes 58 seconds to secure the win and remain in the NFC playoff hunt.
