INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana said on Saturday he would not seek the U.S. presidency in 2008 because prospects of victory were too slim.
"Whether there are too many Goliaths or whether I'm just not the right David, the fact remains that at the end of the day, due to circumstances beyond our control the odds were longer than I felt I could responsibly pursue," Bayh said in a statement.

Bayh's announcement came less than two weeks after the former two-term governor of Indiana said he was forming a committee to explore a 2008 presidential bid.
The 50-year-old moderate, who described himself in his statement as "relatively unknown," was seen facing an uphill battle against better known potential candidates such as Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
