The Saints shook off a lackluster start and mounted a 13-play drive that began late in the first quarter and carried into the second. On the first play from scrimmage of the second quarter, quarterback Drew Brees connected on a 10-yard completion to rookie wide receiver Marques Colston to the Redskins 45. Reggie Bush ran for nine yards, and Deuce McAllister ran twice, for 11 and two yards, to the Redskins 23. New Orleans moved into the red zone on a 20-yard pass to McAllister, who finished off the possession with a one-yard touchdown run. The Redskins answered on their ensuing possession with a 37-yard field goal from Suisham.
