The Saints extended a drive that began late in the third and culminated the possession with a 41-yard field goal by John Carney to cut the deficit to 13-10. The Saints had moved to the Redskins 23, but on third down and three, Brees threw incomplete. The Redskins answered with a 22-yard field goal by Suisham with 4:15 to play after a drive stalled at the Saints 4-yard line. On their ensuing possession, the Saints drove to the Redskins 15, but a short pass to Bush on third down and six resulted in a loss of one yard. On fourth down and seven, cornerback Carlos Rogers knocked down a pass intended for Terrance Copper in the end zone with 47 seconds to play.
