Sean Taylor is known as one of the fiercest hitters in the league, and he had Saints running back Reggie Bush sized up during a second-quarter run. Bush got the ball on a double reverse and ran through a hole on the right side. Taylor filled the gap and lined up last year's Heisman Trophy winner for a jarring blow, but when he went to make the tackle, the safety was left grasping at air after Bush sidestepped to his left to avoid the big hit.
The Redskins had moved from their 20 to the Saints 19 midway through the second quarter when New Orleans Coach Sean Payton threw a challenge flag after Ladell Betts ran for eight yards. Betts lost the ball after his right knee was down, but Payton challenged anyway. The savvy move threw off the Redskins' timing, with Todd Yoder and Derrick Dockery called for consecutive false start penalties. Washington had to settle for a field goal.
