"Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days o' auld lang syne?" These words, attributed to 18th-century Scottish poet Robert Burns, will be sung tonight in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and elsewhere, signifying the start of a new year. Other countries use the song in graduation ceremonies. "Auld Lang Syne" means "old long since" or "long ago."
