At least four men were shot and wounded late last night on a Northeast Washington street, D.C. police said. In a separate incident, a man was shot and killed a half-hour later in Southeast.

In Northeast, the victims, who appeared to range in age from the late teens to the 20s, were hit about 11 p.m. in the 1600 block of Trinidad Avenue.

Police said shots were fired from a red car that drove up and drove off. Two men were hit in the foot, one in the thigh and one in the back.

All of the wounded men were standing in the street or on the sidewalk in a block lined with brick rowhouses less than a half-mile east of Gallaudet University.

The fatal shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Pomeroy Road, a street east of Suitland Parkway and south of the Anacostia River. The victim was shot in the face as he got out of a car, police said.

The homicide came a little more than 48 hours from the end of a year in which the number of slayings in the city has declined substantially. It is thought to be the 166th killing of 2006, compared with 195 last year.
