Montessori programs offer children a wonderful education. My two children are thriving in a Montessori program in the District public schools. It was disappointing that the Jan. 2 Metro article "Montessori, Now 100, Goes Mainstream" recognized public schools in the area offering Montessori education but failed to mention such programs in the District.
The Montessori program at Watkins Elementary School on Capitol Hill (part of the Capitol Hill Cluster School) has six classrooms serving children from age 3 through fourth grade from all over the District and has been doing so for many years. Our dedicated teachers are all Montessori-trained. When there is so much negative news about D.C. public schools, I simply want to acknowledge a good program within the system.
