More than a dozen companies operate retail-based clinics, or RBCs, nationwide. MinuteClinic is the only chain operating locally, though RediClinic is set to open in Virginia early this year.

· MinuteClinic ( http://www.minuteclinic.com) has 146 clinics, all located inside CVS, Target and Cub Foods stores, in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas and Washington state. In Maryland, MinuteClinics can be found in Annapolis, Baltimore, Bel Air, Bethesda, Bowie, Catonsville, Ellicott City, Elkridge, Millersville, Rockville, Silver Spring and Towson.

· RediClinics ( http://www.rediclinic.com) are backed by Revolution Health, a firm started by AOL co-founder Steve Case. RediClinics -- most of them in Wal-Mart stores -- can be found in Arkansas, Georgia, New York, Oklahoma and Texas.
