Retail-based clinics promise quick, low-cost treatment for routine ailments, but many doctors say they could actually be detrimental to patient care. Here's a snapshot of what the clinics will treat -- and what they won't -- and what patients should look for in terms of quality.
Treatment eligibility
Retail-based clinics have specific rules about whom they will and won't treat. Most will treat you if:
· Your complaint falls within a narrow scope that includes such problems as: colds, coughs, sore throat, earaches, female urinary tract complaints, minor injuries, minor skin rashes, simple eye infections.
· You need a flu shot or other immunization.
