An Orange Line Metro train hit a man who authorities said jumped on the tracks at the Capitol South Station yesterday, causing additional delays on a weekend already slowed by track repairs.
The injured man, whom Metro officials declined to identify, was struck by the train at 8:36 a.m. and removed from the tracks by 9 a.m. to be taken to a hospital. The extent of his injuries was not known.
Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel said an initial investigation showed that the man intentionally jumped on the tracks.
During much of the morning, Orange Line trains traveling between the Federal Center SW and Eastern Market stations shared a track. The Capitol South Station is on First Street between C and D streets SE, near House office buildings.
Blue Line trains also serve the Capitol South Station, but those trains were diverted yesterday to Yellow Line tracks for track work.
Arlington Cemetery Station is closed until Tuesday because of track work. Free shuttle service will run every five minutes between the Rosslyn and Pentagon stations, with a stop at Arlington National Cemetery.
