7 Weapons Stolen From FBI Vehicle

The stolen items included two MP5 machine guns, an MP5 training weapon, two M4 rifles, a .45-caliber semiautomatic weapon, a Remington 870 shotgun, a police radio, bullet-resistant vests, body armor, and a camera and photo lens, according to the police report and the FBI.

Persichini said "technological adjustments" were made so the police radio was no longer functional.

The FBI said that it began investigating the matter Saturday and decided to go public yesterday to announce the $25,000 reward and enlist the public's help.

Other vehicles used by law enforcement officials have been stolen in recent years.

In June 2005, someone swiped the car of Charles H. Ramsey, the police chief at the time, a block from his home in Southwest. "Cars are getting stolen every day," Ramsey said then.

In 2000, an FBI car with weapons was stolen outside a high-rise apartment building in the 800 block of North Pitt Street in Alexandria. In 1997, an ATF agent's car was stolen from a parking lot near Stafford. A gun, two bullet-resistant vests and the agent's credentials were inside.

Staff researcher Meg Smith contributed to this report.
