U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq Hit 3,061

-- As of Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at least 3,061 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,444 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is 32 higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Monday at 10 a.m. EST.

The British military has reported 130 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 18; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, six; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, one death each.

The count includes two deaths listed by the Department of Defense that could not be verified by the AP as Iraq-related casualties.

_ Two Marines were killed Sunday in separate attacks in Anbar province.

_ A soldier was killed Monday by a roadside bomb in Nineveh province.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_ Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jennifer A. Valdivia, 27, Cambridge, Ill., was found dead Tuesday in Bahrain in a non-combat related incident; assigned to the naval security force for Naval Support Activity, Bahrain.

_ Marine Cpl. Jacob H. Neal, 23, San Marcos, Texas, died Friday in Anbar province; assigned to the Marine Forces Reserve's 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Grand Rapids, Mich.

_ Marine Lance Cpl. Luis J. Castillo, 20, Lawton, Mich., died Saturday in Anbar province; assigned to the Marine Forces Reserve's 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Lansing, Mich.

_ Army Pfc. Allen B. Jaynes, 21, Henderson, Texas, was killed Saturday by an explosive in Iraq; assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
