Evelyn 'Polly' MarkhamAdministrative Assistant
Evelyn Lightner "Polly" Markham, 90, who worked as an administrative assistant for the CIA in the 1950s, died of respiratory failure Jan. 20 at her home in Washington.
Mrs. Markham was born in St. Paul, Minn. She was educated in private schools in Greenwich, Conn. Before World War II, she traveled abroad widely, learned to pilot an airplane and lived in England for an extended period.
In 1952, she joined the Central Intelligence Agency. She served in Ethiopia and Syria before resigning in 1958 to marry John Markham, a senior agency officer.
She was a member of the Junior League, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Chevy Chase Club, the Sulgrave Club, the League of Republican Women and St. John's Episcopal Church at Lafayette Square in Washington.
Her husband died last year.
She leaves no immediate survivors.
Wallace A. RobinsonAuditor
Wallace Aubrey Robinson, 74, a retired federal auditor, died Dec. 23 at his home in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. He had cardiac arrest and atrial fibrillation with renal failure. He was a former resident of Silver Spring.
Mr. Robinson was born in Washington, attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1950 from Bullis Prep. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He began working for the federal government while attending American University and the University of Maryland.
He received bachelor's and master's degrees in commercial science from Strayer College in 1960.
After retiring in 1977 from the federal government, where he worked with the Defense Department and other agencies, he worked part time for the Northwest Federal Credit Union.
He was active in the Jaycees and was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 948.
Mr. Robinson, a golfer and fisherman, enjoyed taking his granddaughters boating and teaching them to fish. He also enjoyed hunting, reading, gardening and swimming. He was a world traveler and spoke several languages. He spent winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
