METRO SAFETY
Strobe Lights To Be Installed On 100 Buses
Metro plans to install strobe lights on 100 buses that operate in the District to help alert pedestrians to their presence, officials said. The special warning lights, which will be affixed to the front of the buses, are scheduled to be installed in the next 60 days.
Several Metrobus accidents involving pedestrians have occurred in recent months. A Northwest Washington woman died Jan. 16 after being struck by a Metrobus in Mount Pleasant, D.C. police said. An H8 bus heading north on 16th Street NW about 10:25 p.m. hit Carla Gonzalez as it turned left onto Park Road, Metro officials said. Gonzalez, 24, of the 1400 block of Spring Road, died at the scene.
