And just to let you know, there is much beauty in the mountains in the summer, too.

Pat Welch, Vienna

Mexico City, Cont'd

MY PARTNER and I were in Mexico this past summer ["Touring Amid a City's Turmoil," Dec. 31]. We were in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Morelia and Mexico City. Not once did we feel unsafe or threatened.

Our hotel in Mexico City was on the Zocalo across from the Presidential Palace. By accident, while returning to our hotel, we got caught up in Obrador's rally of about a half-million people.

We left for a concert about the time the rally was breaking up. The crowd included families with young children. At no time did we feel unsafe.

We walked a good deal in all the cities, day and night, sometimes knowing where we were going, sometimes not. We found the Mexican people accommodating and friendly. But even in Charles Town or Martinsburg, W.Va., there are places where I'd be careful.
