Keep Waters on the Board

I read Jack Ryan's letter in the Jan. 25 Loudoun Extra ["Citizen-Centered Service"] in which he touts a need for citizen-centered service and leadership for the county. He makes this plea in reference to the recent Washington Post series on the role of development interests in Loudoun County, and a need for a balanced development policy.

I can tell you, without reservation, that the Broad Run District already has the best elected supervisor, bar none, who makes the most unbiased decisions in this county when it comes to balanced growth and development. Supervisor Lori L. Waters (R) has maintained strict principles in her evaluation of land-use issues and has a voting record that speaks volumes in terms of her integrity and the ability to represent the residents of the Broad Run District.

When Ryan made a recent statement to the media that he "opposes many of Water's stands on land-use issues," it indicated to me that he must be pro-development when it comes to land issues. And in this case, it would put Ryan right smack in the crowd of elected officials who leave the door open to influence peddling.

Rather than bowing to the influence of developers, Waters has done her job in the most ethical way, evaluating land-use applications based on their merits and in accordance with the county's comprehensive land-use policies. Her primary concern has been for residents' welfare, not the pockets of developers. That is why the people of the Broad Run District should run, not walk, to provide support and assistance to Waters so she can be reelected as supervisor in November.
