Sarah-Jo Lawrence scored 20 points and Jessica Adair added 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 11 George Washington to its 11th straight win, a 71-47 victory over La Salle yesterday in Philadelphia.
Kimberly Beck had 12 points for the Colonials (18-2, 7-0 Atlantic 10), who also won 11 straight games during the 2003-04 season.
The Explorers (15-7, 3-4) missed 22 of their first 23 shots and hit just 3 of 25 field goals in the first half, helping George Washington jump out to a 31-9 lead and hold a 34-20 advantage at the break.
Melanie Gibbons scored to cut the lead to 36-24 with 18 minutes 32 seconds remaining. But the Colonials responded with a 12-0 run -- two three-pointers and two free throws by Lawrence along with a basket and two free throws by Adair -- for a commanding 48-24 lead.
· MISSISSIPPI ST. 73, MISSISSIPPI 71: Marneshia Richard's shot at the buzzer lifted the Lady Bulldogs (13-8, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) to an upset win over the No. 22 Lady Rebels (16-6, 5-2) in Oxford.
Richard's shot, which was upheld after a video review, came after Ashley Awkward had tied the game at 71 on a three-pointer with 6.3 seconds remaining.
· LSU 65, AUBURN 45 : Sylvia Fowles scored 19 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to help No. 8 LSU beat visiting Auburn (15-7, 2-4 SEC).
Quianna Chaney added 17 points for LSU (20-2, 6-1), which extended the nation's longest home-court winning streak to 42 games.
· RUTGERS 63, MICHIGAN STATE 57: Essence Carson scored seven of her 21 points in the final 2:38 to lift the Scarlet Knights (12-6) over the No. 23 Spartans (15-6) in Piscataway, N.J.
· GEORGIA 77, FLORIDA 54: Tasha Humphrey scored 19 points and Ashley Houts added 16 to help the No. 14 Lady Bulldogs (18-4, 5-2 SEC) hand the Gators (6-16, 0-7) their ninth straight loss.
· BOWLING GREEN 72, E. MICHIGAN 55: Kate Achter scored 22 points to lead the No. 16 Falcons past the Eagles (11-8, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Bowling Green (18-2, 8-0) built a 20-point lead in the second half behind Achter and Ali Mann, who scored 19 points.
