I don't know whom The Post polled, but Sen. Barack Obama appeals to a great many blacks I know. We are proud of his accomplishments and agree with his positions on a variety of issues -- "urban" and otherwise.

Some older civil rights warriors may be envious of the history he is poised to make, but they should be full of pride -- their efforts paved the way for this moment. And if he is elected president, I have no doubt that Mr. Obama will be concerned not just with the state of black Americans but of all Americans. That is as it should be, no matter the race -- or gender -- of the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
