U.S. Marine Killed in Fighting in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A U.S. Marine was killed in fighting in Anbar province, an insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad, the military said Tuesday.
The Marine assigned to Multi-National Forces-West died Monday of wounds sustained due to enemy action in the vast province, which stretches from Baghdad to the borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The identity of the slain Marine was not released pending notification of relatives.
The death raises to at least 3,085 members of the U.S. military have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
