Blair Team in Science Bowl Finals
Montgomery Blair High School has won the statewide championship in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl.
Students on the winning team were Christina Zou, Jeff Guo, Max Wof, Sam Du and Junquian Zhang. Along with coach Tran Pham, the team will compete against 66 other regional winners in the science bowl finals in April.
Twelve teams of high school students were in the statewide competition, which featured a question-and-answer format similar to the game show "Jeopardy!." Students faced questions in all science disciplines, including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics and astronomy.
Applying for Student Art Award
High school seniors who intend to pursue a career in the visual arts are eligible to apply for the 2007 Ida F. Haimovicz Visual Arts Award offered by the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
The selection of the winner, who will receive $3,000, is based on a juried review of artwork and an essay. Financial need is not considered. The winner also will have a solo show sponsored by the Arts and Humanities Council.
A free workshop to explain the application process will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 24 at the council office, 801 Ellsworth Dr., Silver Spring. The deadline to submit an application is March 24.
