U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq at 3,083

-- As of Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at least 3,083 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,476 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is seven higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Wednesday at 10 a.m. EST.

The British military has reported 130 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 18; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, six; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, one death each.

The count includes two deaths listed by the Department of Defense that could not be verified by the AP as Iraq-related casualties.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

_ A Marine and two soldiers died Tuesday in Anbar province.

_ A soldier was killed Wednesday in Salahuddin province.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_ Three soldiers died Saturday in Taji when their vehicle struck an explosive. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. They were:

_ Army Cpl. Timothy A. Swanson, 21; San Antonio, Texas.

_ Army Pfc. Jon B. St. John II, 25; Neenah, Wis.

_ Army Pfc. David T. Toomalatai, 19; Long Beach, Calif.
