I was astonished by the Montgomery County Board of Education's vote to reverse a previous decision and allow Montgomery Blair High School to hold its graduation ceremony at the Jericho City of Praise church [Metro, Jan. 26].

I grew up in Olney, and my graduation from Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring was held at the same church. As a Jewish student, I was extremely uncomfortable having to walk to receive my diploma under the symbol of a religion not my own.

This is a clear violation of the separation of church and state. This venue was an uncomfortable choice for all those not of the Christian faith, and the option of using this venue should never have been up for discussion.

I was pleased, therefore, to learn in a Jan. 31 Metro article that Superintendent Jerry D. Weast found the funds in the budget to allow Blair and Sherwood, which had already planned on using this venue, to use Comcast Center for their 2007 graduation ceremonies.
