The day after his arrest, Arndt had a pizza delivered to the security guard at the warehouse with an apology and printouts from Web sites about urban exploration, said William "B.J." Spencer, owner of VIP Security Unlimited LLC, which provides 24-hour security for "The Wire." Urban exploration is the examination of abandoned or little-used buildings.
Arndt wanted to explain his hobby "so we would understand," Spencer said. "But to do that with a bunch of burglary tools is ridiculous."

STRIP MALL BLAZE
Gunman Could Have Fled Liquor Store, Police Say
A gunman who perished in a strip mall fire after shooting at police started the blaze with a lighter or match in a liquor store's back room, investigators said yesterday.
James C. Douglas, 29, could have escaped the fire but chose not to and died from smoke inhalation, Frederick County Police Lt. Thomas Chase said.

Germantown Woman, 21, Reports Valentine's Rape
A 21-year-old Germantown woman said she was raped on Valentine's Day when she stepped outside during a party, Montgomery County Police said yesterday.
The woman had gone to get something from her car about 8:45 p.m. in the 19100 block of Highstream Drive, according to a police report, when a man attacked her from behind, pulled her out of the car, knocked her down and sexually assaulted her. She injured one of her attacker's ears in the struggle, police said.
Police seek a tall, thin white male in his 20s with a buzz cut and are offering $1,000 in cash for information leading to an arrest or indictment.
