Arenas Feels Pain Of Recent Slump
Saturday, March 3, 2007; Page E05
As jump shot after jump shot clanged off the rim or rattled in and out for a frustrated Gilbert Arenas during a recent shooting slump, it became obvious that something wasn't physically right with the three-time all star.
Arenas has made only 21 of his last 107 three-point attempts following his 2-for-6 effort last night against the Hawks. One factor is that Arenas has been bothered by soreness in his right shoulder since a collision with Milwaukee's Ruben Patterson on Dec. 30.
According to Arenas, an examination by a chiropractor yesterday revealed a problem with his right clavicle.
"He said it was pushed in and that's why I didn't have my normal range of motion," Arenas said after shooting pain-free for about 15 minutes during the morning shoot-around. "So he messed around with it, popped something back into place and it feels a lot better."
Arenas said he lost range and touch on his shot during the recent rough stretch and was not able to lift his right arm above his head without pain. As of yesterday evening, that discomfort was gone.
"I won't have my long range shot, not yet, that's going to take awhile. But my mid-range shot is going to be fine," Arenas said. "The hibachi is back baby!"
Sidelined Again
Forward Michael Ruffin missed his third straight game with headaches and dizziness. Coach Eddie Jordan said the team was awaiting the results of tests and will know more about Ruffin's status "by the middle of next week."
