School superintendents, teachers and others who work in the region's school systems confront all kinds of problems every day. Staff writer Valerie Strauss asked some to talk about a big problem they recently confronted and how they tried to resolve it. Following are some of their answers, most of them sent by e-mail:

Major Problem: Developing an agreed-upon approach in Virginia to deal with students just learning English while being expected to take a full English version of the state reading test.

Resolution: Meet several times with superintendents, testing officials, experts in English language learning and attorneys to craft a shared strategy and approach for short- and long-term resolution.
