EMBEZZLEMENT CASE

Catholic Priest Pleads Not Guilty

A Roman Catholic priest entered a plea of not guilty in Louisa County Circuit Court yesterday to charges that he embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from central Virginia parishes.

The Rev. Rodney L. Rodis, 50, was pastor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bumpass and St. Jude Church in Mineral from 1993 until he retired last May.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond has said Rodis embezzled more than $600,000 from the churches.

Rodis waived his right to a jury trial. Judge Timothy Sanner set trial for Oct. 1. If convicted, Rodis could face up to 20 years in prison on each of 13 counts of embezzlement.
