NEW YORK, April 5 -- Orioles Manager Sam Perlozzo said he likely would wait a few starts to determine if he will ask pitching coach Leo Mazzone to tinker with Daniel Cabrera's mechanics to stop teams from stealing bases against the tall right-hander. In his debut Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins stole four bases against Cabrera.

"It's the first game he's pitched out there," Perlozzo said. "If it's something that we see is a trend, then we can do some things. If a guy is pitching good, it's a fine line how you can change mechanics to deliver a ball to the plate. You want him to get the hitter out, or you want him to get the base runner? It's a fine line there. We can call some slide steps and things like that to get him a little bit better. But last year he was a lot better at it. We'll get him through the first start and then make adjustments after that."

Ripken to TBS

TBS announced that Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr., who will be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame this summer, will be a studio analyst for its baseball broadcast team, joining fellow inductee Tony Gwynn.

"This interested me on the surface level because I always thought I had some insight to bring -- to help explain the game in a broader sense to the viewers," Ripken said. "I never really wanted to have the type of job that would have me traveling back on the road the way I did as a player, but this opportunity with Turner came along, and we started to discuss it, and it fit right into the timing in my life." . . .

The Orioles announced Ripken will throw out the first pitch for the team's home opener Monday against the American League champion Detroit Tigers.
