An occasional look at products the travel industry insists we need.
WHAT: Flip-top plastic toothbrush cap that suctions to a bathroom mirror or wall.
HOW MUCH: $2.99 to $3.99 for a two-pack (more online).
AIMED AT: Anyone with teeth who travels.
BUT DOES IT WORK? In travel, as in life, it's the little things that count. And this humble toothbrush holder not only is cute as heck, it also provides a valuable service: It keeps your toothbrush off dubiously clean hotel sinks and countertops and out of drinking glasses, and lets you hang it from the bathroom mirror via a handy suction cup. Its goofy mask-of-comedy air vents are not only functional -- the American Dental Association says never to store brushes in a closed container -- but make you smile. What more could you ask of a toothbrush holder?

The Smiley Face Toothbrush Holder is available at Ginza (1721 Connecticut Ave. NW) at $3.50 for a two-pack, and some Wegmans at 99 cents each. You can also order it online, but it's more expensive ($5.85 for a two-pack at http://www.magellans.com); when you add the shipping costs, it's hardly worth it.
