Your Jib and Other Jabber

Newfese -- Newfoundland English -- is a distinctive, and occasionally startling, blend drawing from English and Irish dialects and sailors' lore. A few examples:

* Whatta ya at? What are you doing?

*  How's she cutting, me cock? How's it going, my friend?

*  Owisya? How are you?

*  Still in the same ice. Nothing new.

*  Stay where you're to till I comes where you're at. Wait there for me.

*  Put the wood in da 'ole. Shut the door.

*  Long may your big jib draw. Good luck in the future.
