These were among cases handled recently by the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, which operates the county animal shelter and provides animal control services to the county. The shelter is open from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays except Tuesdays and noon to 4 p.m. weekends. For more information or to report emergencies involving animals 24 hours a day, call 703-931-9241. Cats Denied Chickadee Prey


SEVENTH RD. S.,5000 block, April 12. A woman found a bird in her apartment and confined it in a bathroom to protect it from her cats. An animal control officer caught the blackcap chickadee and released it outdoors. Animal control says that when animals are found in a residence, occupants should turn off lights and open windows and doors to enable the intruder to leave.

Squirrel Found in Bathroom


29TH ST. S., 4800 block, April 12. An animal control officer netted a squirrel found in the bathroom of a residence and released it in a nearby park. A resident, who did not know how the animal had entered the home, was advised to repair any openings to the exterior.
