Antonio Logan-El, who drew the ire of many Maryland fans 15 months ago by accepting a scholarship offer to play football at Penn State, yesterday said he will transfer to Division I-AA Towson this fall.
Logan-El, an All-Met offensive lineman at Forestville in 2005, originally committed to play for the Terrapins before changing his mind and eventually picking Penn State at a televised signing day event attended by Gloria Friedgen, the wife of Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen.
But after one year at Penn State in which he redshirted and did not play, Logan-El asked for a release from his scholarship. He declined to comment on his reasons for leaving Penn State. He will be eligible to play this fall because transfers from Division I-A schools to the I-AA level do not have to sit out a year of competition.
"Some things didn't go as planned at Penn State," Logan-El said. "Towson was closer to home, it's a good program."
