Traditional Home devotes 10 pages to a Kalorama home redone by local designer Darryl Carter (the subject of a recent Home section profile.)
Consumer Reports looks at the most and least reliable brands for cars, electronics and kitchen appliances. If you're about to buy an electric cooktop, for example, GE and Kenmore are more reliable makers than Jenn-Air and KitchenAid, according to the magazine. In the same issue, take a look at recommendations for buying a lawn mower.
The region's local consumer magazine, Washington Consumers' Checkbook, surveys dry cleaners in the area for quality of service and price. David Chu in the District, Edna's Cleaners in Rockville and Action Cleaners in Falls Church are among the top-rated.
Clip and save the "Going Green Checklist" inside Whole Living Body + Soul, a Martha Stewart magazine. The list of 101 Ways to Get Started can seem obvious, but worth tacking up on the fridge as a reminder.
