Three American soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in Iraq today when their vehicles were struck by improvised explosive devices, the U.S. military announced.
The attacks occurred in two different parts of Baghdad.
In one attack, two soldiers were killed and two were wounded while their Multi-National Division-Baghdad unit was clearing IEDs from roads in the southern part of the Iraqi capital, a military statement said.
"Clearing these roads allows freedom of maneuver for coalition and Iraqi security forces conducting clearing operations in the area, as well as freedom of movement for the civilian populace," the statement said.
No other details were given about the attack.
In the other incident, a female Multi-National Corps soldier was severely wounded after an IED exploded under her vehicle at 1:55 p.m. today in western Baghdad, a military statement said.
The soldier died at 3:25 p.m. at the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, the statement said.
The names of the soldiers will be released after their relatives are notified, the statements said.
More than 3,350 U.S. service members have died since the start of the war in March 2003.
