Big League Dreams ( http://www.bigleaguedreams.com/) operates replica-field sports complexes in six cities:

* Cathedral City, Calif., near Palm Springs (760-324-5600)

* Riverside, Calif. (951-685-6900)

* Chino, Calif. (909-287-6900)

* Redding, Calif. (530-223-1177)

* Manteca, Calif., near Stockton (209-824-2400)

* League City, Tex., near Houston (281-316-3400).

Parks are under construction in Gilbert, Ariz., near Phoenix; Mansfield, Tex., near Dallas; and West Covina, Calif. The roster of replica parks varies by location but may include Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, Tiger Stadium, Brooklyn's Ebbets Field, New York's Polo Grounds, Cincinnati's Crosley Field and Pittsburgh's Forbes Field.

PLAYING IN A TOURNAMENT: Numerous organizations sponsor tournaments at Big League Dreams. The one we played in was run by Magic Sports ( http://www.leaguelineup.com/magicsports), which had high men's, low men's and coed divisions for $250 per team. Entry fees vary by tournament sponsor; some tournament organizers will find spots for free agents.

There's also a $2.50 admission charge to the park, which includes a $1 token good for food or drinks at the Stadium Club restaurant in the middle of the facility. Water fountains are ubiquitous.

Balls are provided, but bring your own glove and at least one bat per team.
