BOSTON, May 11 -- Scott Williamson likely will be activated off the 15-day disabled list Saturday, Baltimore Orioles Vice President Jim Duquette said. When Williamson becomes available, he'll do so with more confidence in his rebuilt right elbow and a greater sense of how to manage his previous injuries.

Williamson went on the disabled list April 24 after a bout with dehydration, which he believes led to the tightness in his right triceps tendon. Since Williamson has a history of elbow trouble -- three surgeries, including two ligament replacement procedures -- the team took extreme care.

"It's a lot better now," Williamson said. "I can't wait to get back out there. I'm excited."

Williams built arm strength in four rehab games, throwing multiple innings twice. In his final appearance Monday at Class AA Bowie, he threw two-plus innings for the first time since 2000.

Once reliant on a 95-mph fastball, Williamson throws in the mid-80s now, "but I realized I can still get people out," he said.

His goal this year is to pitch in 60 games and he will focus on being reliable, not necessarily spectacular.

"I think that's gotten me in a lot of trouble early my career, trying to be that hero, and then I end up where I can't pitch," Williamson said. "I want to go out there and pitch on a consistent basis. I don't want to be that guy they have to stay away from all the time. I've never been that guy, and I don't want to be that guy." . . .

Jaret Wright's rehab is a "month-to-month" process, Duquette said, but the team expects him back this season. Wright's father, Clyde, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer his career may be finished, which Duquette denied. "Our thought process was we would see him again at some point this year," Duquette said. "Absolutely."
