Ben Blumberg and Ashley Lau are scholarship winners in the Eighth Annual Writing Seminar and Scholarship Program. Both will receive $2,500 college scholarships from The Washington Post.

Lau and Blumberg, along with 15 other high school seniors, participated in the writing seminar, which was held on four Saturdays in March. The students were taught reporting and writing techniques by Washington Post reporters and editors. At the end of the seminar, the students wrote news stories.

The stories written by Lau and Blumberg were selected the best of the 17. Lau and Blumberg plan to attend Northwestern University and the University of Maryland respectively in the fall.

The seminar, which is open to all area high school seniors through an application process, is co-sponsored by The Washington Post, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association.

All interested students are encouraged to apply. Learn more about the writing seminar and The Washington Post's Young Journalists Development Program at the website, www.washpost.com/yjdp.
