If you like to write, draw and enter contests, keep reading. We've got three for you.

1. May 27 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rachel Carson, a noted writer and biologist. In "The Sense of Wonder," she wrote about the need for children and adults to share the "joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in."

To honor Carson, the Environmental Protection Agency has an essay/poetry/photo contest for two-person teams. Entries should express the sense of wonder you feel for the sea, the night sky or other natural beauty. Now here's the catch: One team member must be over 50, the other under 18.

Entry deadline: June 15, 2007

2. Some lucky kid is going to have his or her science art displayed on the October cover of Discover magazine, a monthly science and technology journal. Artists in grades 3-8 are eligible to submit drawings about "the wonder and excitement of science."

The October issue will examine the quality of science in U.S. laboratories, universities and schools, and look at technology worldwide. In addition to the cover art, six contest finalists will be profiled in the October issue and online.

Entry deadline: June 20, 2007

3. Got a good idea for saving or managing money? It could pay you $1,000.

Adventures in Storytelling, a contest sponsored by ING Direct bank, wants fictional stories that teach simple financial lessons to kids ages 4-7. The stories must be original (your own work).

Three winning entries will be published as books, with illustrations by professional artists. The authors will each receive 100 copies and $1,000.

There are three age categories for entries: 6-12, 13-19 and 20 and older.

Stories should be no more than 1,400 words and must be submitted online. You need an okay from Mom or Dad to enter.

Entry deadline: June 30, 2007
