Athlete of the Year
Sarrah Hadiji, W.T. Woodson, Sr.
The William & Mary recruit won the Liberty District title in the 800 in 2:14.52, a career best and meet record. At the Southern Track Classic, Hadiji was runner-up in the mile (personal-best 4:57.15) and third in the two mile (10:56.06).
Coach of the YearTodd Utter, Westfield
Utter, who has been head coach of the Chantilly school since it opened in 2000, guided the Bulldogs to their fourth straight Concorde District title. He split coaching duties with his wife of nine years, Emily, tag-teaming as coaches with approximately 85 athletes competing under their leadership this spring.
First TeamMelanie Akwule, Lake Braddock, Jr.
Akwule ran personal bests at the Nike Spring Invitational, finishing second in the 100 hurdles (14.86) and the 300 hurdles (44.96) to West Springfield All-Met Trish Friederich.
Betsy Alter, Westfield, Sr.
Alter set a meet record in the pole vault at the Concorde District championships, winning with a clearance of 11-1, tops in the Northern Region and a season best.
Tynita Butts, T.C. Williams, Soph.
Butts captured three gold medals at the Patriot District championships, in the 100 (12.45), long jump (19-1) and high jump (5-3).
Abby Clement, Paul VI, Sr.
Clement won the 800 meters at the Draper Invitational in 2:15.34 and was third in the 1,600 at the Cassels XBC Track Classic (5:14.73).
Lia DiValentin, Chantilly, Soph.
DiValentin won the 3,200 at the Concorde District championships in 11:21.02 and was runner-up at the Southern Track Classic in 10:56.04, a season best.
Brittni Finch, Centreville, Jr.
Finch won the 200 (25.02) and the long jump (19-2.25) at the Allen Johnson Invitational. She was third in the long jump (19-1.25) at the Penn Relays.
Trish Friederich, West Springfield, Sr.
The All-Met won the 100 hurdles (14.60) and the 300 hurdles (44.41) at the Allen Johnson Invitational. She also won the long hurdles (44.55) at the Southern Track Classic.
Kerry Hartman, Westfield, Jr.
Hartman won the 800 at the Allen Johnson Invitational in 2:16.04, a meet record. She was runner-up in the 1,600 at the Concorde District championships in a season-best 5:07.4.
Samella Koroma, T.C. Williams, Sr.
Koroma, one of Virginia's best throwers, won gold medals at the Patriot District championships in the shot put (42-4) and the discus (131-09).
Tasia Potasinski, Westfield, Jr.
At the Concorde District championships, Potasinski won the 1,600 in a season-best 5:07.1 before finishing second in the 800 (2:16.72).
Sarah Weber, Washington-Lee, Sr.
Weber took third in the 1,600 at the Allen Johnson Invitational in a personal-best 5:09.44. She ran a career-best 11:13.64 to win the 3,200 at the Northern Virginia Invitational.
